Justus Könkkölä specialises in insurance and commercial contracts and the resolution of related disputes. In addition, Justus is one of Finland’s leading arbitrators.
Justus has particular expertise in product liability, professional liability, and contractual and other liability matters in general. He regularly acts as counsel in cases relating to property insurance, directors’ and officers’ liability (D&O) insurance, construction matters, various commercial contracts, personal injury claims, and insurance regulation. In his areas of expertise, Justus frequently represents clients in arbitration proceedings as well as before state courts.
For many years, Justus has also advised public-sector entities on contract and liability matters. He has acted as sole arbitrator and as chair or member of arbitral tribunals in dozens of arbitration proceedings. These arbitrations have concerned, among other things, insurance contracts, distribution, cooperation and non-competition agreements, construction contracts, lease agreements, and the redemption of minority shares under the Finnish Limited Liability Companies Act.
Justus earned his doctoral degree in 2009 with a dissertation on liability insurance. He has also published approximately 20 additional scholarly articles on insurance law, tort law, and contract law.

Mikko supports our clients with various aspects of law based on his extensive experience. Over his 50-year-career, Mikko held a number of roles before joining Justus K. He has worked as a member of the Supreme Court of Finland and the president of the Vaasa and Helsinki Courts of Appeal. He has held different law drafting positions at the Ministry of Justice, most recently as Director of Legislative Affairs. Mikko retired from public service in 2020.
Mikko has served both as chair and a member on various legislative working groups and state bodies. Most recently, he acted as chair of the Personal Injury Advisory Board (2006–2020) and the committee appointed by the Ministry of Justice to prepare the reform of legislation concerning liability for damages of public sector entities (2021–2023). Mikko also chaired the committee that prepared the Bankruptcy Act.
Moreover, he has co-authored books on bankruptcy law. Representing Finland, Mikko has participated in the European Union’s legislative procedure and international contract projects. He has also acted as an arbitrator. Prior to joining us, he worked as a Senior Advisor in two Finnish law firms.
